At first glance, the work of Sophia Ainslie can seem like a force of nature: a freeze frame of a hurricane, gales of form and colour swirling against a blank, static background. Her work is full of motion: dripping, jabbing, and swirling lines are surrounded by islands of colour. Her palette is a box of brightly coloured crayons, blood red suns, all–encompassing blues and rich egg–yolk yellows, standing in stark contrast to one another, separated by crisp edges.
